Above the Bay
Parasailing in the Bay of Islands lifts you 100–150 metres above the water on a parachute towed by a boat — providing an aerial perspective of the bay, the islands, the beaches, and the water colour patterns that the boat-level view cannot show. The flight lasts approximately 8–12 minutes (the time aloft, not including the boat ride and setup), and the takeoff and landing are from the boat deck (you do not need to run along a beach or get wet unless you choose the “dip” option where the boat lowers you briefly into the water before lifting you back up).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is parasailing safe?
With licensed operators and appropriate weather conditions, yes. The equipment is commercial-grade, the crew manages the launch and landing, and the flight is controlled from the boat. Weight and weather restrictions apply.
How high do you go?
Approximately 100–150 metres above the water. The height provides panoramic views across the bay, the islands, and — on clear days — the Northland coastline in both directions.
Can children parasail?
Most operators accept children from approximately age 6–8 (minimum weight requirements apply). Tandem flights (two people on one parachute) are available for parent-and-child combinations.
